GOOD PRICES AT NAPIER WOOL SALE.

BRISK BIDDING AFTER SLOW COMMENCEMENT. Per Tress Association. NAPIER. November. 19. A bench of sixty-two buyers faced the auctioneer this morning for the first wool sale. The bidding at the start was not brisk, but consistent, and competition was solid. Prices on the whole coincided with the Wellington prices. The Continental demand was more prominent, with Bradford in the running, but not to -a marked extent. Little was heard from America, and Japan was silent. From the first catalogue of 3474 bales, 95 lots were passed in. Prices ranged as follows: Coarse cross-breds up to 152 d; fine super from 13d to 143 d; average fine crossbreds 13d, inferior from 9d to lid, medium from 12d to 14d, coarse cross-breds super up to 12d: coarser low cross-bred 9sd to 102 d; fine long wools from llid, coarse hoggets 9*d to 12d. No lambs’ wool was offered. There was an exceptionally keen demand for pieces of all kinds. Super fine long wool pieces made up to 14*d and good average cross-bred pieces from 9d to llid. Later the bidding became more spirited. A line of Southdown cross-bred made 15d and a line of Southdown 16d.
