SOUTH AUSTRALIAN OIL WELLS DEFENDED.
FIELD SUPERINTENDENT ISSUES A STATEMENT. By Telegraph.—Pre*« A*»n.— Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 19, 12.40 p.m.) MELBOURNE, November 19. In connection with the statement of the director of Geological Survey in reference to the South Australian oil wells analysis, the company's field superintendent, after consultation with the directors, has issued a statement in which he says:—“ln refutation of reports recently circulated as to the absence of mineral oil in our bore at Caroline, I definitely state I have proved the exisence of crude petroleum in the bore. Its presence has been demonstrated to many people, including visiting directors. But for the unexpected intrusion of water in the bore, we would before this have been producers of crude oil on probably a commercial scale. This is my definite opinion as a petroleum engineer of many years experience.” 1-Ie adds: “This opinion is backed by two other well-known experts.”
