BEACON LIGHT MAY NOT START.
CUP FAVOURITE WENT AMISS TO-DAY.
The four-year-old gelding Beacon Light is amiss and he is a very doubtful starter for the New Zealand Cup, for which he has been favourite this week. He galloped a mile and a quarter with Count Cavour and Desert Glow this morning and walked off quite soundly. When he cooled out, however, he was distinctly lame. The trouble is in the joint which has
affected him on previous occasions. Beacon Light was lame after working on the Napier track a few weeks ago, but he made a good recovery, and he was able to run at Trentham, where he won the Champion Plate. The recurrence of the trouble is regarded more seriously. It is extremely doubtful, in fact-, if Beacon Light will be able to start in the New Zealand Cup or any other event at the Riccarton carnival.
