TRAVELLING SHEEP MUST BE FED.
WARNING GIVEN TO SOUTHERN DEALERS. “More care should be taken in the matter of feeding sheep coming from the North Island," said Mr C. S. Thomas in the Magistrate's Court this morning, when, on behalf of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, he prosecuted L. Corsley, who was charged with failing to supply sheep with sufficient and proper food. Mr Thomas said the sheep had come from the North Island, having been put on the boat while in poor condition. Dealers made a practice of bringing sheep down and selling them as stores. Mr Corslev’s sheep had been stored jn a paddock where there was very little grass. “This case is brought as a warning,” said Mr Thomas. Defendant was fine 20s and costs.
