They disappeared remarkably quickly, a testimony of the excellence of the cooking, all of Avhich was done on the premises. The long clay pipes entered with the exit, of the mutton, mid added a philosophical atmosphere ;ind much smoke. G.ood-fcllowsliip. encouraged by a splendid repast and a thoroughly enjoyable musical programme, held sway at the Richmond Working .Men's Club rooms last night when the annual Sain Weller "swarry" was held. Withers’s .lax?. Band was in attendance. Tim president of the club (7Tr R. B. Woodward) occupied the chair, and posts of honour were assigned to the Mayor (Mr J'. K. Archer), the Toavij Clerk (71 r S. Neville), the president of the Christchurch Working 71 e it’s Club (71r J. Cooper), and the president of the Kaiapoi Club (Mr L. P. Hopkins). The Mayor commenced a happy speech by thanking the club for its donation of £5 to the unemployment fund. It was strange, lie said, that in New Zealand there should be’ unemployment: but as there avuh. it. behoved everybody to assist in its alleviation. The district of Richmond was already congested, and lie trusted that the school site for the playground for children av< >u id he secured. He would be very sorry to see houses erected on it. \ The toast list Honoured included: "The King and Royal Family” (proposed by the. president.): "The Army and Navy" (proposed by 7Tr R. S. Ward and responded to by 7Tr E. Hubbard), "The Mayor and Councillors” (tlie president —the Mayor and Town Clerk), "Success to Club and Founders” (7lr G. Hiekmott—Mr W.
