JUSTICE MAY DEAL WITH IDLE, DISORDERLY PERSONS, SAYS NEW BILL
(Special to the “ Star ”) „ WELLINGTON, July 21. A clause in the Police Offences Amendment Bill introduced by the Minister of Justice authorises a constable to arrest any person whom he believes has no lawful means of support, or insufficient means of support and to bring him before a magistrate or two Justices, who are empowered to deal with the case. The Statutes Remission Committee has amended the clause to empower such cases to be dealt with by any Justice, who, if the arrested person fail satisfactorily to prove he has sufficient lawful means of support, may deal with him as an idle and disorderly person.
