WHO KILLED COL. TULLOCH?

MELBOURNE MYSTERY STILL UNSOLVED. MELBOURNE. June 13. The detectives who are inA*estigating the murder of Colonel Tulloch at East Melbourne interA-iewed a man and a woman at police headquarters last night. Both were released after they had been questioned for several hours. Inspector Campbell, head of the criminal inA'estigation branch, said today that the couple had merely been brought to police headquarters so that seA-eral matters on which the detectiA’es had doubts could be gone into. These matters had been cleared up to the satisfaction of the police. It is understood that the couple were questioned- in regard to certain discrepancies in statements made to the detectiA’es. The detecti\-es engaged on the case denied .to-day that the torch which was found in Lauriston Hall after the murder had • been proA*ed to haA’e been stolen from a, boarder there. It is stated officially that the motive for the murder has by no means been clearly established, and the identity of the murderer is still a mystery. One of the most important points which the police haA’e been unable to clear up is in reference to the fawn hat which was left behind by the murderer. The detectives have no idea as to who is the owner of the hat. A police official this morning said that he thought that the crime had been committed by a desperate man, and had not been premeditated. DetectiA*e Sergeant Holden and DetectiA’es Lynch, West and Cumes (Sydney) continued actiA'e inquiries into certain phases of the tragedy to-day.
