The Maritime Conference adopte<s a draft convention granting seamen the fullest guarantees in connection with the punishment of crimes aboaird sl?ip, while leaving the national legislatives the right of fixing penalties applicable to different offences. The conference rejected a British amendment to exclude desertion and absence. without leave The conference entrusted the International Labour Office with the task of examining the penalties obtaining in different countries for breaking seamen’s articles and agreements, requesting it to submit the results to the joint (maritime committtee with a view to preparing an international solution.
