INDIAN ARMY TEAM. SOUTH CANTERBURY DEFEATED. The visiting Indian Army team met and defeated a Soutli Canterbury team at Temuka yesterday by 14 goals to 2. The weather was ideal and there was an attendance of nearly 3000 spectators at the Domain ground. The teams Indian Army—Ghulam Ali, Dhian Fingh. Faquir* Chanel, .Tagindur Singh. THE TEAM RETURNS. With fourteen wins in New Zealand to their credit, the all-conquering Indian Army hockey team, looking fit and confident after their southern tour, returned to Christchurch last eveuing to prepare for the test match at Lancaster Park on Saturday. Met at the railway station by officials of the New Zealand Hockey Association and the Canterbury Hockey Association the officers were driven to their hotel and the men to the barracks, where they will again be quartered during their stay in Christchurch. To-day the team will turn out for practice at Ilagley Park. THE FIRST TEST MATCH. The local hockey authorities have received word from Wellington that E. M’Leod, the brilliant ’Varsity half-back, received an injury to his foot while' playing last Saturday, and will not play in the first test against the Indian Army team at Lancaster Park next Saturday. Dianchand, the centre of the Indian Army team. has recovered from his injury, and will be fit to play against New Zealand, at Lancaster Park on Saturday. Mr S. O. Holland, one of the selectors of the New Zealand team to meet the Indian Army team on Saturday, accompanied the team on its southern tour. He stated last night that Dianchand’s achievement in scoring nine goals in yesterday’s match was considered a world’s record. M’Leod’s injury would involve the selection of nnothoV player for Saturday’s test, but would not seriously affect, the New Zealand side.
