HOUSES RIGHT UP TO VICTORIA PARK.

VISION OF FUTURE OF CASHMERE HILLS. The annual general meeting of the [ Cashmere Progress Association was held : last evening, when AJr Cyrus J. R. Williams presided over a good attendance of * Tli“ annual report stated that the poll 1 to erc«-t a hall had not been carried. j .Some negotiations had been carried on. with regard to connecting with the city [ drainage system, and the matter was | now in the hands of the Heatlicote County Council. During the year a new infants’ school had been built. In regard to the upkeep of Dyers’ Pass Road, a good deal of improvement had been made, but the position was still far from satisfactory, and the committee had urged the County Council to have the road declared a main highway, and. failing this, suggested that a. commission to fix the liability for the upkeep of the road should be set up. It was understood that the council was still negotiating in the matter. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, said that the representatives on the County Council attended diligently to the wants of the district. Mr K. < '. Huie referred to tbe county elections, in which the association had taken some part, and he asked that, those who were not pleased with the attitude of the association should take the opportunity of saying so. There was a great deal to do in regard to drainage, and he hoped that the association would see that Cashmere was linked up with the city sewerage scheme because the present system was unsatisfactory. The report was adopted. The election of officers resulted:— President, Air O. J. R. Williams; vicepresident, Mr W. R. Carey: secretary and treasurer, Mr IT. Bicknell; committee. Messrs J. S. Hawkes, W. M. Hamilton. A. F. Wright, A. A. M'Dachlan, SI a den. MTlwraith. S. Buchanan, C. H. Duff, a. M. Hall, W. W. Keighley. Lawrence and W. M. Everett; auditor, Mr R. Browning. On the motion of the chairman and Mr Carey, a. resolution expressing the regret of the association In the impending departure of Mr H 5. C. Huie, and hope for his success in Auckland, was carried. In replying, Mr Huie said that the growth of the suburb during the past seven years had been marvellous. He thought that the next, seven years would see. houses right up to Victoria. Park. He would like to see Cashmere join with the city, hut he was afraid that if that took place it would be the end of the Heathcote County, as the rest of the county could not maintain the county organisation. He thanked the members for the motion, and expressed his regret at leaving ChristchurchIt was decided to reduce the annual subscription to 2s sd.
