JEWELS STOLEN IN AUCKLAND.

SENSATIONAL BURGLARY CARRIED OUT AT S A.M. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 23. A sensational burglary, which has the appearance of the work of an experienced criminal, or criminals, occurred about five o’clock this morning at Monte de Piete Loan Shop in the Gas Company's buildings in Pitt Street. Taking advantage of the police change during a heavy fog, an attempt was made to cut through the heavy plate glass window. This' evidently failed and a substance resembling glue was spread over the. window, which was then covered by thick brown paper. A large boulder wrapped in cloth was thrown through the window, making a large hole, through which the thieves removed a tray laden with diamond rings They were then evidently disturbed. David Bookman, the proprietor, is unable to give an estimate of the value of the rings stolen.
