NEW METHOD FOR DISPOSAL OF REFUSE.
A report on an improved method of collecting refuse in the city was presented to the City Council last night. The Works Qommittee reported that the City Engineer had recently sub*mitted a comprehensive report in rc- . fcrence to methods of disposing of rei fuse. After carefully considering the report, the committee had decided that 1 "lightning refuse masticators” would be ; suitable for the council’s use. The j| chairman . had interviewed the Medical Officer of Health with regard to the advisability of raising a loan under the Health Act for the purchase of two masticators and a’freighter. Dr Telford was strongly in favour of the proposal. The committee, therefore, recommended that the Health Depart ment be communicated with and asLr, ed for authority for the raising of a loan of £2500 for the purchase of the plant referred to. It was decided to refer the matter, back to the committee to give councillors time to consider the engineer’s report.
