TWO LAND AGENTS MUST PAY FINES.
FAILED TO TAKE OUT LICENSES. Two land agents were fined at the Magistrate’s Court to-day for carrying on their businesses without licenses. They' were Arthur Campbell, of IS4, Cashel Street, and Humphrey’ Reward. They were charged separately that not A fine of £5 and 7s costs was imposed. the Magistrate saving that Campbell had avoided paying a license fee for part of the year, intentionally' or otherwise. In the case of Reward. Mr Batchelor appeared and pleaded guilty. Mr Gibson said that defendant had no license last year. He had taken one out on June 17.
Mr Batchelor said that Reward had been a land agent for a number of years. He had become confused with the Act of 1923-24 and had applied for a license and advertised his application, but he had not gone on with it. He apparently intended to go ahead and had overlooked the date. The Magistrate: Of course, he overlooked paying the £lO last year. A fine of £ls and costs 7s was imposed, the Magistrate saying that the fine included the £lO license fee for last year.
