Mr Justice Adams will return from the West Coast to-night. Messrs T. Adair (Gisborne), and William Taylor (Dunedin), are among recent arrivals at Warner's Hotel. Recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel include Messrs J. G. White (Wellington), C. Dennis (Wellington), A. R. Hosking (Sydney-), G. M’Caul (Wellington), and C. S. Brice (Wellington) . Messrs G. V. Ludbrook (Bay of Islands), A. Connell (Dunedin), 11. Ranger (Auckland), and A, Beauchamp (Wellington) are at the Clarendon Hotel.

At a meeting of the Papanui Burgesses’ Association last night, a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr G. Ritchie, who was for a long time an enthusiastic worker for the association.

Mr J. Bruges, of Wellington, has accepted a position with the Christchurch branch of the Vacuum Oil Co., Ltd. Mr Bruges was formerly a resident of Christchurch, and was a good cricketer, being a member of the Sydenham Club's first eleven.

Mr J. M'Dermott, who has been District Telegraph Engineer at Christchurch for the past six years, has received notice of his appointment to a similar position in the Wellington district, and he will leave shortly for the north.

Mr E. B. Hey wood, who has been manager of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., is retiring after having been forty-five years in the service of the company. Mr Heywood’s position will be filled by Mr C. J. Wilson, of the firm of Pync, Gould, Guinness, Ltd.

Passengers by the. Niagara, which arrived at Auckland yesterday, included William Backhaus, a noted German pianist, who is on the way to Australia, after which he will return to New Zealand; Mr Ronald Chamberlain, examiner of Trinity College of Music, and Stanislaus Zbysko. the world's champion wrestler. " also are passengers, as well as four members of the Dunedin Rotary Club, who are returning from the Honolulu conference, Messrs J. Fletcher. R. G. Hudson, H. Guthrie and jf. Brown.

Commander Willmott Setwell, Dr Baliantyne, Mr S. Anderson, Mr B. B. Wood, and Captain Baldwin arrived in Christchurch from the North this morning.
