HOUDINI HAS CHALLENGED ALL FORTUNE-TELLERS.
WASHINGTON, May 1. On the second day of the hearing of evidence concerning the bill to eject fortune-tellers from the district of Columbia, the caucus room was packed by spectators, and was turned into a theatre, when Houdini, the noted lb lusionist, demonstrated before the committee how “slate-writing" was done On the table lay 10,000 dollars, lloudini’s standing otter to any fortuneteller who can do a trick that he cannot duplicate. Houdini produced a letter from Abraham Lincoln’s son, Robert Lincoln, declaring that his father was not a spiritualist, as was claimed by spiritualists. ~ , “They use Lincoln’s name, said tne magician, “to get converts. They call up his spirit, and I have known him to be attending scores of seances at the one time." Alfred Terry, pastor of the rirst Spiritualist Church, testified that the proposed bill would muzzle mediums, who were the nucleus of his religion.
