PILLION-RIDING.

...... To the Editor. Sir, —Kindly allow me, through the medium of your x*aluable columns, to heartily endorse the views of “ Motor Cyclist ” on the subject of pillion riding. After glancing through the columns of sex-eral English motor-cycle magazines, one cannot lfelp being impressed with the number of seats, accessories and other equipment manufactured solely for the purpose and comfort of pillion rider*. Our English motor-cycle manufacturers are second to none in the world to-day, and if there is any real and serious danger attached to the practice of “ pillioning ” surely they would be x*ery much alixfe to it. Apparently, in the United Kirgdom, which has, roughly, a population forty-fix r e times greater than God’s own little country, it is considered quite in order to ride on the back of a friend’s motor-cycle, yet here in our beautiful garden city of xvide streets and miles of flat roads one is debarred from the thrill of “ pillioning ” by a local by-law, which, to say the least of it, is autocratic and ridiculous. Why cannot we follow the lead of our capital city,- where on One occasion the City Council tried to prohibit pillion riding, but the motor-cyclists rose up in arms, stood firmly together and gained the day. In conclusion, may I suggest to our City Fathers th&t they follow the lead of the more progressive city of Wellington and thereby Amend the unnecessary by-law. which is the means of prexenting many an outing for those who have no other means of going for an outing into the freshness of the open roads and the great outdoors.—l am, etc, JERRY.
