Mrs Cox and her daughter. Miss'Winifred Cox, left last evening for the north en route to their home in Svdnev. Mrs James Hay (Armagh Street West) left last evening, en route for Auckland. Mrs F. R. Dunsford, who is returning to Fiji, leaves Christchurch on Saturdav to join the Aorangi at Auckland. Miss Gladys Russell, who is the guest of Mrs Currie. Kelburn, Wellington, will return to Christchurch at the end of the week. Mr and Mre Douglas Le Crcn and Misses Betty and Margaret Le Cren Timaru) arrived at Warner’s Hotel last night. Miss Dorothy Willis and Miss Bonnie Pinckney, who have been visiting friends in Roxburgh and Dunedin, have returned to Christchurch. Mrs W. 11. The following students of a first aid class who have been instructed in first aid to the injured under the auspices of the St John Ambulance Association have been successful in passing the examination and have qualified for the certificate of the centre: Misses E. Mrs John Jobber ns., of Culverden, was hostess at* a 'catmT afternoon held In the Winter Garden on Saturday-, in honour of Miss Irene Wrathall. who is leaving shortly on an extended trip to Canada and Europe. Musical items were given by Mrs Rex Bry an, Mrs Cox and Miss Pedder. Competitions and games caused much amusement. Prizes for the competitions were won by Miss Pedder and Miss O’Carroll. Amongst those present were: Mesdames F. Jopes, R. Bryan, Sedman, T. Nicoll, Wrathall, Case and Lang, Misses O’Carroll, Goodwin, Bennett. Simpson, Sedman, Fletcher, Muirfield. Pedder and Frankish. Music lovers of Christchurch who attended the recital given by Miss Kathleen Garven last evening, in the Jellicoe Hall, highly- appreciated the excellent programme provided for their entertainment. The stage was decorated with palms and foliage and the curtain drapings were of deep purple. Miss Kathleen Garven wore a distinctive model gown of pink and gold lame cloth, made on straight lines and draped to one side, and held with a brilliant buckle. Long panels from the shoulders and the wide sleeves were of shaded pink georgette. Miss Judith Mathias wore a pale carnation pink georgette frock beaded in crystal. Miss Nellie Ilavward, the accompanist, wore a gown of ivory crepe de chine, made with cape panel, the shoulders trimmed' with silver bead and sequin trimming.\ The artists received many beautiful floral tributes.

On Saturdays evening a plain and fancy dress carnival was held in the Rolieston Street Hall. About 200 danced to music supplied by Bettell’s orchestra. The fancy costumes were many and varied. Mr and Mrs Charles Rintoul were judges, and awarded the following prizes: Best fancy’ costume, Miss Lorna Henderson (Lorna Doone); 1 : Miss Watson (If Winter Comes) 2. Most original. Mr and Mrs Lit,tie (Hui Hui) arc guests at Warner's Hotel. Mrs Walter Scales has gone to Sydney’ for the winter months. Mrs 11. Sorenson is spending a fortnight with friends in Geraldine. Miss Bain has returned to Sumner after a holiday’ spent at Peel Forest. Mrs E. J. Le Cren, Maori Hill, has returned to Timaru from Christchurch. Mrs Wreaks (North Auckland) is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs Alfred Merton (Cambridge Terrace). Mrs T. Cracroft Wilson is leaving next week to visit her daughter, Mrs Adams Wilson, Marton. Mrs Bannerman, Wai-iti Road, Timaru, returned south from Christchurch on Monday. Miss Kitson, Christchurch, who was with Mrs Hassell, North Street, Timaru, has gone on to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs J. D. M’Cracken. who were spending a day days in Christchurch, have returned to Rangiora. Mrs R. Dawson, of Dunedin, returned to the south from Christchurch this morning. Mrs Baxter O'Neill, who recently underwent an operation, has returned to her home in Riccarton. The Rev E. C. Crosse and Mrs Crosse have returned to Christchurch from the north. Mrs J. Grimmond and Mrs VI - St George, who have been visiting Mrs Macandrew, May’s Road, are returning to the West Coast to-morrow. Mr and Mrs J. Crispe arrived in Christchurch this morning from the north, and are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs Guy Pascoe and Miss Alice Pascoe returned to-day from Rakaia Huts, where they’, have been spending a holiday’. Mrs F. R. Dunsford, who is returning to Fiji, leaves, Christchurch on Saturday* night to join the Aorangi at Auckland. Mrs Geoffrey’ Kingscote and her little boy (Fendalton) left to-day for Happy Valley to spend a week with Mrs Louis Campbell. Miss Ella Bull (Christ's College) has returned from Nelson, where she has been spending the holidays with her sister, Sirs Flower. An enjoyable coin evening was given on Monday’ evening by Mrs George, in and of funds for the Marist Soccer touring team. Dancing and games were enjoyed. A ventriloquist item was given by Mr G.
