RICHMOND BURGESSES.
The Richmond Burgesses’ Association held its first annual meeting on Alonday night. Mr T. J. Morrow presided over a good attendance of members. In presenting its first annual report, the committee felt that the existence of the association had been amply justified by the result of Its efforts. As a result of representations made by the association, thu City Council had promised that, when the current year's estimates were being prepared, the question of the widening of Stanmoro Road bridge would be given priority in consideration. The need for a post office for Richmond had been felt, and tbe executive had taken up the matter, but its efforts were unsuccessful. It intended, however, to reopen the matter, it felt that there was an urgent need for a post office in the district. The chairman stated that the members were to be congratulated oil t.he manner in which they had guarded the Interests of the ratepayers. Although still in its infancy, it was one of the strongest asso'ciations joined to the United Burgesses’ Association. The association had undertaken sovcr.il important matters, which he hoped the Incoming committee would carry on. He hoped that the association would receive the same support as it had received in the past year. The following officers were elected:—■ president, Air T. J. Morrow; vice-presi-dent, Air J. Dougan: honorary vice-pre-sidents, Messrs G. Alorrow, J. Kearnev, and W. Taylor; committee, Alessrs J R. Parker, W. Gosney, F. Williams, Jones, W. Lawrence, and C. Clausen; honorary treasurer, Air D. Davidson; honorary secretary. Air E. Bedwell. Several names of streets in Richmond had recently been altered, and it was decided to write to the council and request that several other street names should also be altered. One street in particular, which was perfectly straight was differently named-at one end from the other. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr j. Jackson for his services to the association.
