FORESTRY WORK.
The annual report on last year’s operations of the Sehvyn Plantation Hoard, which will be presented at the annual meeting of the hoard, states that general headway has been made in the hoard’s exploitation and afforestat ion schemes in spite of the unusually trying conditions for plant life that were experienced during the spring and early summer months. At one period the land surface was completely waterlogged by continuous heavy rains, while for the months of October, November and December. when only 4.fiH inches of rain fell. th*> planting areas were dust dry for over a foot. deep. Temporary stagnation in the tree-development over the established plantations occurred during the dry weather, but on the subsoil becoming saturated very vigorous headway .was made. The report, records the complete success of tree firming measures adopted last year in the cases where wind pressure affected the root system of pines.
