Y.M.C.A. REPORTS ON YEAR’S WORK.

COMMUNITY SERVICE ON MANY OCCASIONS

The fiftieth annual meeting qf the Young Men’s Christian Association of Christchurch was held last evening, Mr A. F. Carey (president) presiding.

The report traced the activities for the year, which did not include the special jubilee celebrations or the finance and membership campaign. After outlining the spiritual, mental, physical and social training which the organisation provided, the report mentioned the good work being done at the Boys’ Gordon Hall; the community service the association had rendered on the occasion of naval visits, American, French and Australian; and the work among the 3000 Territorials and 2000 Cadets who had gone through training in the military

camps. The association had been privileged to co-operate extensively with churches and Bible classes, the student Christian movement, the Bible Class Leaders’ Federation, the Rotary Club Boys* Committee and many other organisations interested in youth work. In looking to the future, it was felt that the movement would be carried forward until it wielded a still wider influence. Supporters of the association were thanked for their interest. The balance-sheet showed an expenditure of £2988 11s Bd, which was £1427 4s 3d in excess of the receipts. The deduction of this last amount reduced the accumulated fund to £7992 18s, which was the balance of assets over liabilities. After the closing of the accounts on March 10, the sum of about £3200 had been subscribed or promised as a. result of the financial campaign. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers were elected as follow: Directors. Messrs W. Goss. J. W. Hillarv, A. R. Jordan. A. M. West. S. Wilkinson and E. D. Johnson; senior cabinet. Messrs A. A. G. Reed, D. D. Leckie, O. T. Gorrie and N. E. B. Liffiton.
