There is frequently a diversit3* of opinion as to whether the term “lady” or “ woman ” should be applied when speaking of the gentler sex. Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., holds the view that “ woman ” covers everything, including “ lad3’.” His remark was made during the hearing of a charge against two persons at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The male accused was already in the dock and had pleaded guilty to the offence with which- he was charged. “ As the offence is the same, perhaps your Worship would have the case against the lady heard at the same time—perhaps I should sav ‘ woman,’ ” said Senior-Sergeant Martin, who prosecuted. “ ‘Woman* covers ever3’thing. including ‘lad>’,’ ” said the S.M.
