HE PAYS ON THAT BET.
A GOOD story regarding a wager is going the rounds of Dunedin. Two men got into a discussion as to the probable total attendance at the Mr Pess I. Alist declared that the 3,000,000 mark would not he reached, hut Mr Confi Deuce was just as emphatic that it would. The argument ended in a wager. “ All right, I’ll give you a penny for every person over the 3,000,000 mark if you will give me a penny for every one under that total between the actual number at the end,” said Mr Pess I. Mist. “ Done!” said his friend. The wager was duly recorded, and now the man who made the first move in the matter has to find 200,498 pennies, or £832 8s 2d.
