THE CARE OF BRUSHES.

HOW TO LENGTHEN' THEIR LIFE. By HAZEL BROWN. Xeglect rather than use is the cause of the shortened career of many a good household or toilet brush. To ensure better and longer service, brushes must be treated with proper care. After use they should always be left clean, and—toilet bushes excepted hung up to protect the bristles. Toilet brushes, will remain clean for i much longer period if they are freed dav from accumulation of dust. This van. be done by striking the brush a few times on a sheet of newspaper, a little daily process which effectively removes the dust and benefits the hair, therefore, as well as the brush itself. Remove the dust in this way before washn<* and then clean the back. It the back is of silver, clean in the

aunts or hirelings who. haven’t got. the child's permanent welfare in their keeping. The only compensation about •such a business is that ten to one the child, with a child's true instinct, will know that the mother or father who punishes, it is the person who realty loves it.

So, clear, kind-hearted people, who .shudder at a harsh word, remember that if someone didn’t become temporarily unpleasant, good, money would be paid to inefficient?;: commerce would go to what is called in the vernacular “ the dogs ”; your comfortable home would disappear, and the next generation would be a generation of gaolbirds.
