JUBILEE BALL AT SUMNER.

1 As a fitting opening to the Jubilee celebrations in connection with the 1 Sumner District High School, a jubilee ball was held in the Sumner Town Hall ' last evening. The hall was taxed to its utmost. A committee composed of 1 old scholars had worked hard to make the evening a success. Their efforts were amply rewarded. A new and effective scheme of decorations was cm* employed, the centrepiece being a large dome composed of yellow butter muslin. from which stretched streamers of ' yellow and black. The stage on which Mention's orchestra played bright music was effectively decorated with a black background on which shone a realistic moon and stars. Balloons and greenery were also effectively used. In the supper room the colours used were those of the school, pale blue and dark blue. A tempting

supper was set on long tables. Amongst those present, were: The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs W. H. Nicholson), the head master, Mr G. F. Allen and Mrs Allen, Mr and Mrs G. A. Alexander.
