At the householders’ meeting on Monday evening at Sumner. Mr G. A. Alexander was publicly thanked for his services oil the school committee for the past eleven years, during five of which he has been chairman. The chairman, Mr E. A. Johnson, and the head master, Mr G. F. Allen, made eulogistic reference to his connection with the rapid progress of the school in recent years, and a resolution of thanks and appreciation of his energies and interest was included in the minutes. Mr Alexander feelingly acknowledged the compliment paid him. A private cable message from Sydney to Gisborne announces the death as the result of a railway accident of John R. Decosta, a well-known Gisborne man, who represented an Australian firm at Bombay for fourteen years. He recently retired and took up residence in Sydney. Colonel Tracy Tnglis v/as a passengei to Christchurch by the ferry steamer from Wellington this morning.
