They decide that unless the “hubbies" come to terms with them and agree to give them set wages for their “services rendered" they will not return to the hearth and home* Some of the funniest situations occur when the husbands try doing their own • oozing and housekeeping. They realise then that their wives have been something more than women in the housethey were real helpmeets and companions, but the “hubbies" are loth to put up the white flag, and this leads to many tangles. A fine drama of the outdoor world is the Tom Mix attraction, “The Everlasting Whisper.” It was back to the everlasting whisper of the pine trees that Mark King came, back to the beauties of his birthplace. And it is here that he meets the girl of his heart - a girl grown tired of society. She is amazed by Mark’s tempestuous lovemaking, and indignantly refuses this rough-seeming horseman. To save her from the advances of a waster. Mark carries her off and forces her to marry him. Then the story moves faster until a thrilling and hair-raising climax is reached. :i « The combined names of Seastrom-Shearer-Chaney should be a guarantee of film entertainment of a high standard. These three are connected with “The Tower of Lies.’’ Seastrom being the director, and Norma Shearer and Lon Chaney the leading players. In addition, this story won the Nobel Prize as the best novel of the year. It tells skilfully the story of a girl who goes to a city in search of adventure. *her disillusionments, and her strange romance. « SC SC What is said to be an "inside story" of bootlegging in America is *’Red Dice." which is now being filmed at the De Mille Studio. To ensure the accuracy of this expose. "Red Dice” features Rod La Rocque, and is a screen adaptation of Octavius Roy Cohen’s story, “The Iron Chal“Thc Man on the Box,” starring Syd. < haplin. is taken from the novel by Harold M'Grath. It is the story of a wealthy young man who falls in love with a strange girl at a cafe. Through an accident he is offered a position as her father’s groom, and accepts to be near her. This causes many complications and comical incidents. An aeroplane accident in which Doris Kenyon and Vi via Ogden crash to earth in the backyard of an Italian duke, furnishes one of the exciting thrills in “The Unguarded Hour." First National’s latest Milton Sills starring picture, which will be realeased short ly. An enormous opera house stage with proscenium arch and all compiete. was erected at the Paramount Studios on one of the seven large stages, lor the filming of the theatrical scenes in “The Cat’s Pyjamas" co-starring Betty Bronson and Ricardo Cortez, supported by 'Theodore Roberts and Arlette Marchal. the noted French beauty. Some of the most brilliant photographic effects ever obtained on a set of this sort were filmed. These include opera glass impressions of unusual brilliance, which started with the tiny figures cn the stage, as seen from the gallery, gradually enlarging through the adjustment of the glass until they appear almost as close-ups.

FlorenZ Ziegfcld. the producer of the famous Follies entertainment in New York, is said to be annoyed because the movie producers are always stealing his beauties. It is said that he is about to stipulate in contracts hereafter that any person appearing in his shows will not be allowed to accept any moving picture roles. The world premiere of a Chinese film, made in America, was held in the Capitol Theatre. San Francisco, last month. The title is “ The Silk Bouquet," and an unusual number of Chinese were present on the first night. Frisco having its own Chinatown. The leading roles were enacted by Anna May Wong, who is well-known in Hollywood film colony, and Timmy Leong, also a well-known | Chinese actor. For two peace-loving citizens of the United States. Kenneth Harlan and Patsy Ruth Miller certainly have a hard time in their latest Master Picture. “ The Fighting Edge." which Warner Brothers have just released. As Kenneth explained. "It is just one fight after the other, with the devil take the hindmost." True to its name “ The Fighting Edge ” is a story of the Mexican and United States borderline with more fights in it than can be counted. When a man gets his hair waved and nicelv curled, there’s usually mischief in the air. yet Willard Louis, the jovial Warner star, had his done every day in order to adequately portray the overbearing. frivolous king in “ The Love Toy." his latest Master Picture. Mr. Louis’ fascinating coiffure easily outshines that of Tane Winton, Myrna Lov or Helen Costello, all of whom support the rotund comedian in “ The Love Toy." Only Lowell Sherman, who plays the leading role, wears a masculine hair cut. * ## Each having been recently married, it was rather amusing for Marie Prevost and Monte Blue, who being starred in the Warner picture “ Other Women's Husbands.” to enact the many intriguing bits of business with which husbands disguise their philandermgs. Both Miss Prevost and Mr Blue agree that working in a picture of this kind is quite an education, but Huntly Gordon and Phvllis Haver who complete the quartette in this Master Picture, refuse to believe that they intend to use the they are acquiring. The great Biblical picture. “ The Wanderer." opened its Australian season at the Capitol Theatre. Melbourne, on March 20 and broke all attendance records for that city. “ The Ten Commandments ” not e^xcepted. An announcement from Culver City, California, is to the effect that Cecil de Mille will, during this year, make no less than forty pictures which will aggregate the huge sum of £2.800.000. These will be made at the Metropolitan Studios, where it is proposed to spend some £150,000 in enlarging these buildings. vi a m “ The Sea Beast.” the spectacular picture starring John Barrymore, ranks among the few truly, great photoplays. John Barrvmore gives a thrillingly perfect and powerfully moving performance in the role of Ahab Ceelev, a harpooner of the days of 1840 when the whaling industry supplied adventure and romance for '-oung men who followed the sea. This picture is based on “ Mobv Dick." written by Herman Melville and adapted to the screen by Bess Meredvth ; ## Rov Pomerov, the remarkable young man who parted the Red Sea in the screening of " The Ten Commandments who created the trick effects in " Peter Pan." and has contributed many other marvels of screen illusion, has evolved something new for " Get Off the Earth." the Martian comedy which Raymond Griffith will do (says "Motion Picture News " > He has created a man. 30 feet tall, who runs, talks, throws missiles, cats and is strong enough to push ever an ordinary office building.

Another Somerset Maughan play, “ The Circle." has geen filmed and is said to be as powerful as “ Rain." It is a frank presentation of tangled romances in society's strongholds.
