ASSOCIATION.

ASHBURTON MEETING. The adjourned annual meeting of the Ashburton Football Sub-Association was held last evening, when Mr J. Sham presided in the absence of he president (Mr A. Amps). Nine other members (Mr ,T. S. Wilson) explained that he had been unable to attend the first meeting last week. The annual report stated that though the vear had been fairly successful, it was evident that players would have to give more attention to practice. The finances were not in a very healthy state, and the season would commence with liabilities of about £2The report at\d balance-sheet were adopted. In reply to a question, the secretary stated that he had received a letter from the Sports Association asking who shifted the Rugby posts on No. 2 ground. As he knew nothing of the matter he had not replied. The association then notified that unless a reply were received or a delegate attended its meeting-, drastic action would be taken.

Tie did not like the tone of the letter, which ha regarded as somewhat highhanded. It was useless for a Soccer delegate to attend a Sports Association meeting as all the other delegates with the exception of those from the hockey players were from Rugby, and there was no hope of doing anything against them. He thought an application to the Domain Board would receive a sympathetic hearing. Mr Ross said he had thought that the association had agreed- to shift. the poles after every match, and when conditions were made they should be kept.. Mr D. - Jones thought that the secretary should, as a matter of courtesy, i have answered the letters. He moved 1 that application be made to the Do- j main Board for the No. 2 ground. This was seconded by Mr G. Broker J and carried. After some discussion it was decided , not to affiliate this year with the South ! Canterbury Association. It was then discovered that the first rule iu the coiir j stitution stipulated that the sub-assocl- j ation be affiliated with the South Canter- I bury Association, and that to change such n rule seven days' notice of motion was necessary. Members apparently considered that such things did not matter, however, . and expressed a desire to carry on with the meeting, rules or no rules. Mr Jones moved that the meeting adjourn for a fortnight to give delegates an opportunity to send in any notices of motion. Mr Barrett suggested that the association would be making itself a laughing stock in Ashburton, and favoured carrying on or disbanding. The meeting did not adjourn and went on to elect officers as follows: President, Mr J. M’Elhinney, senior: vice-presidents, Messrs F. H. Knight, A. Dobson, A. Amos, H. Brown, W. Wilson, R. Buxton and E. N. Johnson; secretary, pro tern, Mr J. Ross. It was agreed that a senior match between the Wakanui and Baring Square .Clubs be arranged for Saturday next, to , be p.iayed in. the Ashburton Domain.
