RUGBY UNION. CANTERBURY COMMITTEE HOLDS MEETING. A meeting of the Management Committee of 'the Canterbury Rugby .Union was held last evening; present—Messrs A. E. M’Phail (chairman), A. Barrett, K. V. Phillips, A. Duggan, W. Maxwell, W. Britten, W. S. Seed, R. 11. North, S. F. Wilson. C. W. Allard, E. 11. Cross, J. K. Moloney and C. S. M’Cully. The Albion club made application for half the gate takings at the match- between Christchurch and Albion at Lancaster Park on April 10. It was decided to grant, the request. The Christchurch Training College made application for the use of Lancaster Park on Thursday, May 6, for the annual match between the Christchurch and Wellington Training Colleges. The application was granted. The head master o»f the Beckenham School wrote pointing out that the school teams used, the grounds at Beckenham Park, but, as there was oply one set of goal-posts at the park, it was necessary for one match to follow another. As the sockets on the other ground were, already in place, the writer desired to- know whether the union would be prepared to lend the school a set of goal-posts. It. was agreed to allow the matter to stand over till next week. The Schoolboys’ Competition Committee said it had been decided to recommend that the Old Boys be invited to participate in the schoolboys’ competition. The schools , will be regrouped, and Messrs Cross, Davis and North will allocate the schools to the clubs. The competition would commence on May 1">, the preliminary round on May 8. The committee recommended that jerseys as required’be supplied by the union. The committee also recommended that matches be played at Lancaster Park, that a football be provided for each team by the union, and that free passes be issued to coaches. The following schools were allotted to the various clubs:-—Albion—West Christchurch, Addington. Riccarton. Wliarenui, Lyttelton Street (S> prey don). Christchurch Richmond, Woolston, Opawa, Normal, Heathcote. Old Boys— Elmwood, Feudal ton, Sumner, Hornby, Aranui, Spreydon. Bur wood. New Brighton. Lin wood-—Phillipstown, Linwood, East Christchurch, Bromley. Merivale • —Papariui, Waimairi, St Albans, Harewood. Belfast, Shirley. Lyttelton D.H.S., Lyttelton West. Sydenham—Waltham, Sydenham, Beckenham, Somerfield, The Junior Advisory Board, recommended that the Redpath Shield be allocated for competition in the under eighteen, nineteen and twenty grades. In regard to the Polo Grounds, the. commit toe recommended that further accommodation should be provided bn' the south side, and that the Christchurch Polo Club be approached with reference to co-operation in improving the present accommodation at the pavilion. In connection “with''.North Park, the committee requested that the caretaker should be in attendance at the Canterbury Rugby Union’s pavilion during playing hours, owing to tthe fact that junior players have had property stolen and were dubious about• leaving their clothes in- the pavilion. The Technical Co Meg,' Old Boys’ Club should be written to advising that the goal-posts on No. 13 ground were not yet -erected, and that the matter should be attended to by next Saturday. Regarding the Redpath Shield, it was decided that .the matter be referred back to the Junior Advisory Board, the chaireonfer with that body. In connection with the Polo Grounds accommodation, it was agreed that the committee should endeavour to get over the difficulty, and the Competitions Committee were authorised to inspect the ground and report. It was resolved to ask the caretaker at North Park to keep an eye on the pavilion. On the motion of Mr Britten, it was decided that matches on Saturday week should start at 2.40 p.m. Mr Cross was added to the Sub-unions Committee of the union.
