SUMNER BEACH.
To ttas Editor. Sir, —Why the evidently hostile attitude of the local council? Should they not thank a committee of residents for all the interest taken in local affairs? I have not noticed one remark from the Mayor or council expressing any appreciation of the committee# work, nor of Mr Ager’s plans. I saw the latter in a shop window in Sumner recently, and can only say that if these were given free of charge (as I am assured they were) and if Mr Ager has received and will receive absolutely nothing for his time and trouble, then it would have been at least a graceful act for the council to have shown, even by a word, some appreciation of his public spiritedness. I have turned back to the report of the meeting, when the deputation waited upon it on December 21, and can see now that even at that early stage, the enthusiastic citizens received a very cold reception. Why? And duriiig the weeks that have gone by since, with several council meetings held during the interval, not one word of appreciation, or -even respect for the citizens’ committee has been expressed. The attitude of the council has been obviously unsympathetic and I am tfraid there is more underneath than is generally thought.—l arii, etc.. PUZZLED.
