MAIREHAU CYCLE CLUB HOLDS SUCCESSFUL EVENING MEETING.

GIRL RIDER GOES MILE UNPACED IN 2.58. The Mairehau Sports Club held a very successful evening cycling meeting at English Park last night. The meeting was postponed from Christmas night on account, of wet weather, and as things turned out it was a good thing for the club as a great many of the leading riders who were away at Christmas time were able to ride and make the events much more interesting. The racing all through was very fine and the times were the fastest all round that have ever been put up at the park. Some championships were decided, but it is hard to understand how they were branded New Zealand championships as these were decided in Pufiedin last month. However, the race provided some surprises, as P. O’Shea, P. TVetls and IT. TV. Nesbitt were all beaten in their heats. A novelty was provided when Miss E. Lintott rode a mile unpacked in 2min 58sec. She was loudlyapplauded for her effort. A five miles motor paced race between M. Fitzgerald and TV. Mackie was won by the latter, and it was a. fitting conclusion to an excellent night's sport, which lasted over three hours, and which was greatly enjoyed by the large crowd present. Mrs TV. J. TVal ter, patroness of the club, decorated the winners of the championship events with blue ribands. Cheers were given for the winners and for Mrs Walter. Half Mile Open Handicap—First heat: F. J.
