CRIME IN NEW YORK.
PRAISE FOR THE POLICE. “ A WONDERFUL ORGANISATION.” LONDON. June 3. The Inspector-General of Police for New South Wales, Mr James Mitchell, states that tbo New York police have a wonderfully efficient organisation in every department. especially in connection with fingerprints, narcotics, boot-legging and juvenile welfare. In judging America's crime record, Mr Mitchell said, it was necessary to remember her mixed races, of which soma were drawn from the lowest strata of th© least progessivo European countries. These were in process of assimilation into American life, and in the meantime required a big stick to keep them in order. Thc best elements in American life preferred the law-abiding Anglo-Saxon stock, said Mr Mitchell. and the authorities therefore were restricting immigrants to selected quotas.
