THE VALUE OF THE COW.
HERD TESTING PROPOSAL. SCHEME NEEDS FINANCE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. June 19. A deputation from the New Zealand Co-operative Herd Testing Association waited on Air Nosworthy to ask for a subsidy to enable herd testing to bo made general. It was stated that an increase of lOlbs in the production per cow would mean an extra £1,000,(XX) and if the average could l>o increased from 1801 hs to 2501b5, which could be done in six years, £6.000,000 more would come into the Dominion. Mr Grounds, oharman of tho Dairy Control Hoard, supported the applieatin. The average production in New Zealand was stated to 1781bs as against 24S in Denmark. Herd testing was now applied in a number of countries Tho sum of Is per cow was suggested as the amount the Government should find. The Minister gave a sympathetic ro ply. Finance was the deciding factor, but he would go carefully into the question and see what could be doue
