"CHEERIO.”

THEATRE ROYAL TO-NIGHT. I To-night, will see the opening of the i season for “ Cheerio.' 5 this year's col- ! lege revue, at the Theatre Royal. It is a bright effort with its medley of | entertaining dialogue, graceful dancing j and bright chorus work. The title of the first act, a musical farce, is “ Supposing.” Professor j Johns, o, law professor at Dunedin , University, is due to visit Mr and i Mrs John Twist, of Fenclaltou. John Twist is a prominent solicitor of the ; local firm of Twist and Grubb. Suffi- i cient it is to say that Twist’s but.- | ler does not bring Professor Johns j homo from the station, but a “ Pro- ■ lessor Jones, a peddler of perfumery.” ■ the deception and the ensuing scenes ; are vei'y amusing. Finally through a j maze of intricate and dangerous situa- ‘ tions, affairs generally smooth them- i selves out to a fitting conclusion. Tiie 1 final is reached when Professor Johns ! enters to find there an old acquain- 1 tance, Gertrude Gadzooks, described us “an ancient hit of fluff and an ! ardent church worker.” She exclaims “My hero! Albert,'-' and falls into ‘ his arms as he breaths, “Mv little ’ playmate, Gertie!” The second act consists entirely of solo and ballet dancing of an ambitious order. The clauses have been ! specially prepared by Miss Margery j Myers. In the last act three reverend gentlemen, Dean Dot-and-Carryonc, lhe Revs Jinks and Odges, visit a cor- ' tain cabaret on a tour of investiga- ' tion. The gaiety of the scene is "no I much for them and they, too make i merry until arrested by a detachment i of “Gibson’s Regiment." They finally j manage to explain everything and come I out with their dignity still preserv- ; ed. The first and third acts are inter- i spersed with solos and choruses of a ; high order, and tile producer has been fortunate in securing sonic capable j 1 principals. Seats may be reserved at The Rris- ■ tol.
