Mr and Mrs T. A Press Association messagm from Greymoutli announces the. death of John Walton, aged ninety-six, who was a resident of Grevmouth for fiftyeight years. He was a steward of the Grey Jockey Club for fifty-seven Formerly he was overseer for the Harbour Board. •Air F. A. Grant, who recently re tired on superannuation from the service of the Railway Department, has been appointed assistant to Air P. R. Climie in his joint capacity of organiser of the Progress League and secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr Grant has held a number of executive positions with the Department, having been at various times district traffic manager, commercial agent and general inspector. Mr AY. AY. Stokes, of Baker Street, New Brighton, died yesterday in the Christchurch Hospital, at the age of seventy-eight. He ca*ie to New Zealand in the Randolph in 1&50. and had lived in Canterbury ever since his arrival. In 1882 he went to Timaru, but returned to Christchurch about ten years ago. taking up his residence at New Brighton. Mr Stokes is survived by two sons, Messrs R. A. Stokes and C. H. Stokes, both of New Brighton, and three daughters, Airs J. Goodman, Mrs G. Water re us and Mrs AY. Wells, aj] of Timaru.
