THIEF’S PROGRESS.
ANOTHER YEAR IN GAOL. Already serving a sentence for theft. Samuel M’Donald, alias Cox, recently committed the offence again, adding to a fairly large record. His career which enables him to rank as an habitual criminal, began as far as is known at Kaikoura. when lie committed theft and was sentence d to two month’s imprisonment. Later incidents in his progress are: Breaking and entering and theft, Dunedin, one vear’s imprisonment and four years’ reformative treatment; indecency, 'Wellington, fortyeight. hours; drunkenness, Wellington, twenty-four hours ; obscene language. Wellington, seven days ; breaking and entering and theft. Wellingto. five years; theft, Christchurch, two years; theft. Christchurch. His latest ofßnce vras theft of furniture from a house he had occupied as a tenant. He was sentenced to twelve month’s imprisonment, this sentence- to begin at the expiry of his present sentence.
