BAIL ALLOWED.
CHARGE AGAINST WOMAN. REMAND TILL NEXT WEEK. Another remand was granted in the Magistrate’s Court to-day in the case in which Gertrude Grace Bell (aged twenty-nine, was charged with having unlawfully used an instrument on a woman at St Albans on June JJ. Messrs A. 11. Holmes, J.P., and IV. Helliwell, J.P. were on the Bench Chief Detective Gibson asked for another adjournment till July 25. Ho stated that the girl was out of danger, but still very burl Mr Cavell asked ior bail. Ho said lie would like to know whether the police proposed to go on with the case, next week, or whet hoi there was likely to bo another remand, it would be quite unfair it a charge of so serious a nature should hang over the head of accused any longer than was necesI lie chief detective: Wo can't pos~ sibly go on without the girl, and, if she is not able to lpave, the hospital, we will have to get another remand. Mr Cavell said that lie wap tod an assurance that rhe case would be brought on. as soon as po>sib!e. The chief detective • We are ready to go on. In connection with the question ot bail. Mr Cavell said that two previous applications had been made, and on both occasions the police objected on trie grounds that the girl was ill and that there might be the possibility of dying depositions having to bo taken The police were now satisfied that the danger was passed. The assurance was given the previous week that when the girl was out of danger bail would be granted. Bail was allowed in Use sum of £2OO, with one surety of £2OO. or two sureties of £IOO each.
