DAIRY FARMERS NEARLY ON THEIR FEET.

ANOTHER GOOD YEAR WANTED. Pis Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 16. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Council of Agriculture was opened to-day, Mr W. Perry presiding. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Ncsworthy) said that the council, during the whole of its existence, nad kept clear of party polities, and lie thought it was a good thing for ail. H.: understood that the Royal Agricultural Society would take over the functions of the conference in future, and that was a progressive step- The first Royal Show was to bo held at Palmerston North next spring, and he gathered that its success ivas assured. Mr Perry said that the past rear had proved a record one as far as total values oi : New Zealand farm produce were concerned, but this had been obtained by high values rather than by an increase in quantity, with one notable exception, that ot dairy produce. Another year of equal prices would put many a farmer into a sound position again. He stressed the fact that- ,farmers should improve their methods regarding the lands tarraed. More intensive methods were r«ciuired.
