LOAVES AND FISHES
BY SINBAD. A hearty cheer has risen to the skies, from men beside the Waite mata’s tide, and Aucklanders in triumph now arise, with boundless pleasure beaming from their eves, and faces wreathed in smiles of joy and pride. “Oh. long has Auckland lagged. ’ the Auckland “ Star ” declares, “ behind the balance of the land. The Soulh has had a better time by far, in spite of all that Messrs Coates and Parr have done to take our grievances in hand. The railway system in our city here may fairly be considered a disgrace, our station always brings to us a tear, and we have waited now for quite a year to have it- shifted to a better place. There's quite a lot of traffic here a day, we’ve sometimes handled quite a ton of cream and half a dozen trains we send away; then Christchurch people have the cheek to say they want some progress with the Hiley scheme. Too long to them a patient ear we’ve lent, and yielded to them right along the line, and never got ourselves a single cent, but now at last a million will be spent, and we will shortly have a station fine. If Christchurch folk in tunnels suffocate it serves them right, they don’t give Bill their votes ; a lesser time will Auckland have to wait, lor soon we’ll have a railway station great, so here’s three hearty cheers for Mr Coates.’’
