He will proceed by car on ' May 30 to Geraldine, where he will open the Maternity Hospital, and .vill leave the next morning for Ashburton to lay the foundation stone of the new women's ward. The Minister will return to Wellington on June 1. The Hon W. Nos worth v (Minister of Agriculture) left Oamaru to-day by the midday express tor the north. Mr A. W. Mr Fraser Thomson, who has received notice of transfer to Christchurch, has resigned from the secretaryship of the Wellington Orphans’ Club. Mr K. J. Colley has been elected to the position. Mr J- W. Clark, in charge of the Wellington Tourist Office, will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow to take charge here while Mr J. W. Bayfeild i«? visiting Hanmer and the Franz Josef Glacier. it will be Mr Bayfeild’s first visit to the glacier. Mrs Bayfeild will accompany him on his trip. Mr Eric S. Bell, who is well "known in this city by his interesting articles on Japan has recently been appointed English Conversation Professor at the Hosci Diversity, in Tokio. Mr Bell is at present teaching at one of the leading middle schools in Japan and will continue teaching there. He* will take this new position to his ordinary work foom the beginning of the new school year. April. 1924. A presentation was made recently ah tlie Railway Reserve miniature rifle range to Mr F. J. Parson, who has retired front the position of chief clerk, locomotive branch. South Island. Mr Parson has been connected with the Railway Rifle Club since its inception, he being responsible, thropgh his ability as an organiser, for its success at the present time. The Railway Reserve Miniature Rifle Club was formed after the disbandment of the New Zealand Railway Reserve Defence Corps. Air Parson took a leading part in the Railway Reserve, holding the position of adjutant for the South Island Battalion. Club captain G. W. Rylatt spoke of the sterling qualities of Mr Parson, and stated his chib owed its success to the help and guidance given by Mr Parson. Speeches were made by the vice-captain, Mr Johnston, and members of the club. Messrs W. B. Fuller. W. J. Wildermoth, P. Hill and J. Timb. The presentation, which took the form of a suitcase, was made by Mi jR.
