UNION BREAKS AWAY.
NEW SECRETARY APPOINTED. The Christchurch branch of the Storemen’s and Packers’ Union decided, at a general meeting held last evening, to appoint Mr J. G. Barnett secretary of tne Union, a vacancy having existed since the relinquishing of the office /by R. D. Martin. Mr W. Herbert. secretary of the ; Dunedin branch of the union, stressed ‘the necessity for a secretary, and it was resolved that the union should' break >&way from the Shop Assistants’ Union ‘and employ a secretary of their own. ! Hitherto the one secretary had represented both unions.
