OVERNIGHT SUMMARY. On Monday evening the Hinds Miniature Rifle Club had a shoot for a trophy donated by Messrs L. Watson and A. Ellis, the winner being F. Hood. The hotty button was won by D. Paterson, with a possible. Two Kaikoura fishermen had an exciting experience on Saturday afternoon. when surprised at a fishing ground, about eight miles off-shore, by the southerly gale which sprung up early in the afternoon. The trip home was in the teeth of the wind, which blew with almost hurricane force, but. after two hours of struggling against wind and tide the launch eventuaJiy rnade the boat harbour. The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year at the annual parish meeting of the members of St Paul’s Anglican Church, Tai Tapu : Messrs .1. J. Willan and A. G. Staubiiry, churchwardens; the Hon Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, Messrs F. Meyers. F. Arnst, .J. Watson. F. Blowers. 11. Hauscliild and Mcsdames R. M. Morten, r.. Scott, Stan bury and Willan, The Sea field Miniature Rifle Club held a shoot- for the hotty button on Saturday ovening. There was a fair attendance. The scores were as follow First shoot: L. Scott. 34; A. Gregory, 34; It. Baynes. 34; C. Johnson. 34. In the shoot-off. L. Scott won with 33, thi* runner-up being A. Gregorv, with 32. A hurricane sprang up at Oka in’s Bay on Sunday afternoon and blew with increasing vigour throughout the night. At times it was accompanied by heavy rain and sleet.. During the height, of the storm a resident was amazed t© see one of his ducks whilst making for shelter, picked up by the wind and carried first over the tree tops and out of sight. The cold snap will most probably end the dairying season. For the past fortnight the factory has been working every .other day only and it is unlikely that it will continue to work
