REVOLTING CRUELTY.

In the Supreme Court, George William Wright, found guilty on two charges of maiming a horse, was sentenced to four years’ reformative treatment. The Judge stated that it was a case of revolting cruelty. The prisoner had made a practice of torturing and maiming dumb animals for two years. A number of mares had been found dead in the Whakatan© and Opitiki districts under mysterious circumstances. The Judge said there was no doubt Wright was responsible for the death of these animals. Since tho trial the skeletons of nine mares had been found in the gully near where lie was living.
