OBITUARY.

GEORGE SIMPSON. The death occurred early yesterday morning of Mr George Simpson, a wellknown resident of Papanui Road, aged seventy-seven. Mr Simpson, who iiaa retired from business, was an enthu siastic bowler and was a spectator a: some of the tournament games on Wednesday. On the previous Saturday he had taken part in' a rink game, and was apparently well, although he had been atended by a medical man for heart weakness. He succumbed to a short attack yesterday morning. The late Mr Simpson was a prominent figure on the St Albans green and was twice singles champion of the club. He took an active interest in the affairs of the Rugby Street Methodist Church. He is survived by a widow and one son, Mr William Simpson, and one daugh ter, Mrs Tom Harrison. Mr W. Simpsou. who was manager of the Canterbury cricket team touring the North Island, reached Christchurch this morning. MRS H. STEFFENS. A very old resident of North Canterbury, Mrs H. Steffens, who came out with her husband in the early sixties. passed away on January at the resident of her son in-law, Mr A. Scott, of East Oxford, after a short illness, in her eighty-third year. Mrs Steffens who was the widow of the late Mr H. Steffens, who died two years ago, resided at Carleton for about forty-six years. She was of a very pious and friendly disposition, always ready and willing to help where there was sick ness. She leaves a family of six sons and .three daughters and thirty five grandchildren, all of whom are living , in the South Island.
