METHODIST CIRCUIT. The quarterly meeting of tho officials of the Rangiora Methodist Circuit was held at. Woodend on Wednesday night. The Rev A. N. Scotter presided, and twenty-two officials were present. Leave of absence was granted the Rev F. C. Foot. Motions of sympathy were passed to the relatives of Mrs J. Withers (Southbrook) and Mrs Philpott (Loburn). The treasurer reported the financesto lie satisfactory. Messrs W. A. Rowse and J. T. "Withers were appointed circuit auditors. Mr W . T. Dennis was appointed representative to the General Conference, which is to be held in Christchurch in March, with tho Rev F. C. Fdot as substitute. Messrs C. R. Thwaites and B Archer were re elected circuit stewards. and a motion was passed thanking them for their past services. Permission was given to tho trustees of tho Rnngiora parsonage to purchase a site for a new parsonage. Permission -was also granted to the stewards of the Sefton church to run the re fresh men t booths at the Sefton. sports meeting on Easter Monday, any profits made to go towards a fund for the purchase of a motor-car for tho "Woodend portion of the circuit. The treasurer reported that £96 had been raised this year for the foreign mission fund, and £72 for homo misAt the conclusion of the meeting, the lady friends of the "Woodend ! church provided supper, for which they 1 were accorded a vote of thanks. WAIKUKU BEACH. !, The annual meeting of the "Waikuku j Beach Improvement* Association was held in the beach shelter on Monday, i Mr H. M. Out of this atnount, it was decided to pay over to the Waikuku j Domain Board £BO to assist the board ! in making a new access to the beach, j The following officers "were elected : j Patron. Mr F. Horrell ; president, Mr H. M. Hawkins ; vice-presidents, Mrs Harper and Mr P. Ford ; secretary and treasurer. Mr T. H. Fraser, with Mr F. Coates as assistant secretary. The chairman stated that, although the beach had suffered a set-back through the flood, the association Is working hard to cater for the pleasure of campers and picnickers. It is proposed to open n life saving station, and also to erect swings. for the children. A see-saw, helter-skelter, and water chute are amongst the attractions which it is intended to carry out almost immediately. On Sunday afternoon, January 20. the Rangiora Silver Band will visit and plav at the beach. At the close of the meeting, votes of thanks were passed to all who had assisted in any way in repairing the damage caused by the flood and in the raising of the money required. OMISSION. Amongst the large number of wreaths sent to the funeral of the late Mr M. A. Arehdall on Wednesday was one from the. Rangiora Gun Club. This ! was omitted from the list of those pub- j lished previously. ACCIDENT TO BOY. On Wednesday evening Eric Shilton, j aged 14 son of Mr W. S. Skelton, Rangiora was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital suffering from a severe cut on one of his knees. The iniurv , was caused by a fall from a horse at '• Papanui where he was a holiday GRASS FIRES. Yesterday, after +he morning train from Rangiora to Oxford passed Stoke station a grass lire sprang up on Mr R. Forsyth’s, farm close to the railway line. Fanned by the nor’-wester it spread rapidly through a pine plan- ' .tation and threatened to reach some ! fields of ripe grain on Mr F. Johns’s J farm, but a party of neighbours and : others passing along the road managed j to get the fire under control and even- j tually beat it.
