Former champions who survived after the first, round this morning were AA’. Foster (Caledonian). ,T C Ilighy (Dunedin), T. Kdwards (Tel muka). W. Allan (Taiori). AV. Carswell (Taieri), and C . R. Ingram (Wellington). Fast champions eliminated after the first round this morning were .J. Brackonridge (Newtown), and AV. Spiller (Sydenham). Brackenridge went down to Ingram by 19 to 10, and Spiller suffered defeat at the hands of H. Smeaton (St Ivilda), the score card reading 20-17. Those with six wins and no losses after the ffrst round of to-dny’s play were T. 8. AVaddell (Timaru). AV. J. Osborne (Wellington), G. Hart (Masterton), Dr J. C. Pairman (Christchurch). AV. Bremner (West Hnd, Auckland), AA'. Allan (Taieri), A\ r . Carswell (Taieri). and G. H. Bilcliff (United). J. Rennie (Christchurch) with five wins and no losses, had a bye in the first round to-day. were eliminated after the first round of the post-sectional play. The second round saw the elimination of Dr Marks (United), J. Angus (Canterbury), and A. Dickson (Christchurch) among well-known local players. Dr .1. C. Pairman (Christchurch), who had been playing splendid bowls during the competition, sustained his first defeat at the hands of W. Brcmner (West Fnd. Auckland), by 22 to 1(5 in the second round to-day. ST ALBANS’ GREEN. Monk (Kaiapoi). who was expected i to do well on the St Albans’ green todav, just beat W. Dobbs (Sydenham) on the last head, when he scored three, winning by 20 to 17. In the next game Monk went down before W. Foster (Caledonian), who was New Zealand champion in 1918. Foster played a steady drawing game, but was | inclined to leave the back unprotect- ! ed. ! Amtman, a Caledonian player, just j got home against R. Haworth (Canter- ! bury). He had a solid lead when, gusty I wind came along and he was quite ' unable to cope with it. Haworth was three up with two heads to go. Amtmann scored a. three on a long head, and secured the winning shot in the last head. Haworth lost his second life in the next round, and Amtman beat M’Millan (Petone). who had previouslv beaten H. Barlow, j The gusty wind caused a rem&rk- ! able reversal of form in some of the 1 first games played this morning. On the Sfc Albans green Robertson beat Hall by 21 to 4. By the luck of the draw these two players had to meet a wain in the second game, and on this occasion Hall won comfortably by 23 to 12. ’Hie second round was played under excellent bonding conditions. Those who had won all their games I at the end of the second round were Waddell, Hart. Rennie, Bremner. and Carswell. Osborne, Allan. Bilcliff and Dr Pairman sustained their first defeats in the second round of the post-sectional play. Maher. Wooller. Woolf, Besley, Holmes and Haworth won all their games yesterday, but were beaten in the first two rounds to-day. After the first round the players left in the draw for the Canterbury east green were transferred to the Canterbury west, green.
