In the presence of a great gathering Prince Arthur of Connaught ISid the foundation stone of a war memorial at Durban. He paid a tribute to the generous response by the men of both the’British and Boer races during the war. The ceremony was most impressive. This was Prince Arthur’s last public utterance in South Africa. He issued a farewell message acknowledging the -kindness which the Princess and, lie had received, irrespective of race, creed, or party. He wished South Africa prosperity in her progress towards the splendid destiny lying before her.
