OVERNIGHT SUMMARY. , A street collection taken up on Friday on behalf of the Christmas comfort fund for the patients in the Ashburton County Hospital amounted to approximately £9O. A cycle race of ten and a half miles held at R-akaia recently resulted: —J. M Gov (2min), time 38min. 1; L. Goulds (sen), time Slrnin. 2; O. Penny (4min). time 35min 2sec. 3. The prize for fastest' time unplaced was won by D. M’Sweeney, time 31min 6sec. Damage to the extent of about £5 was c aused at a house in Day’s Street., Lyttelton, as the result of a fire which apparently was started by the sun shining on to a glass, sotting alight to the cover of a dressing table. The house was unoccupied at the time, but a little girl noticed smoke issuing and gave the alarm to a constable. The house was occupied by Mr T. Mitchell.
