WATER. Xearlv every town in New Zealand is suffering: from shortage of water. Restrictions for household purposes and gardens are in full force. In this respect. Now Brighton is in a very happy position. Its deep well water supply gives it an unlimited quantity of the purest quality. A large amount is necessary for local garden, and in many cases, to ensure any results on pure sand, water has to he used twenty-four hours a day. The present spell of ho: weather has emphasised the benefit of the Now Brighton system. Khopkeepers are grateful to the council for its consideration with regard to watering Sea View Road, more of which has been dune recently than ever before. BANK FOR NEW BRIGHTON. The efforts made by the council and others to obtain the services of a joint branch bank were a failure, because of the lack of support accorded the Commercial Bank of Australia wheu it opened its branch three years ago. it is on record that many of those who promised to change over to onv bank which had the pluck to open in New Brighton did not do so when the time came. It was admitted all round that the bank was a great convenience to the borough. Tt died from lack of support. A future opening of any bank will depend entirelv upon the amount of guaranteed support. The council should be the first to take a step in this direction, not individual private traders. QUEEN CARNIVAL. It is understood that those who favour Wednesday half-holiday for New Brighton are determined to fight the award.
