CYCLING.
CHRISTMAS DAT MEETING. The most attractive cycle meeting held in Christchurch since pre-war daya will take place on Christmas Day at English Park. The abolishment of the track at Lancaster Park put a temporary damper on the cycle rarnng sport, but now a fine cinder track a quarter of a mile in circumference has been laid down at English Park and the few cycle races which have been run off on it have proved that it is a fast track and will make for very fa.pt times. The chief attraction at English Park on Christmas afternoon will be the running of the one mile New Zealand championship in which P. O’Shea, tho present holder, will defend his title against all comers. This event, which is likely to draw a large entry and which will be run in heats, uhould be worth going to see in itself. The Mairehau Club, which will oonduct the meeting, has drawn up the following attractive events in addition to the star item on the programme:—Two miles Mairehau Wheel Race (prises £7, £3, £2 and £l)j three miles Walter Handicap; half mile dash; one mile members' handicap; half mile ladies’ handicap (on ladies’ cycles) and one mile Derby. As there are likely to be about four heats in each of these events, patrons are assured of a fine afternoon's sport. The racing will commence at 1.45 p.m.
