FIRE AT LYTTELTON,

SHOP DAMAGED. A fire occurred earlv this morning in London Street, Lvitelton, when a wooden shop and dwelling, owned by Mr J. Pi trait hi v and occupied by Mrs Harkin, was damaged by fire aud Constable K. A. Irwin, while on his beat at midnight, noticed smoke issuing from the back of the premises. utes a number of the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade members were on the scene. They extinguished the outbreak in about ten minutes. It appeared that the fire. started in a cellar at the back of the building, the flames running up the lining at the. rear of the premises. A good deal of water had to be used, and this caused more damage to the content* than the fire. Mrs Harkin was in bed and was awakened by the alarm. The insurances are not available.
